The Bread of Life

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. -John 6:35

Jesus Christ is the bread of life! Just like bread is physical food needed by man, the bread of life is spiritual food needed by man. Just as man needs to eat physically, in order to live, so man needs the bread of life to spiritually live.

As the Israelites journeyed through the wilderness, they began to complain. They wished the Lord had left them in their place of bondage in Egypt. They thought they had plenty to eat in Egypt even though they were enslaved to Pharaoh, but Moses and the Lord brought them into the wilderness to die of hunger. Instead of remembering the great things God had done to free them from slavery, they complained about their hunger.

But God told Moses he would rain bread from heaven. He provided a new food that appeared each morning with the dew as small, white, round pieces. The Israelites called it manna, translated to mean "what is it?"They did not know what else to call it, so they called it "what is it?" or manna. Each morning the Israelites were to gather the amount of food they would need that day, no more, no less. Each day, God would give them their daily bread. They had to trust God to provide them with their food. If they doubted or mistrusted God and tried to stock up on the food, the manna would rot and spoil.

I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. - John 6:48-58

Jesus Christ is the bread of life. He is the spiritual bread that rained from heaven. Is it no wonder, He came into this world to Bethlehem, which translated means 'the house of bread'. He is the manna of the New Testament. Is it no wonder, He came to His own and His own said 'What is it?' and received Him not? Is it any wonder? Jesus Christ is the bread of life. Won't you receive Him each day by praying, reading His word, listening to the Holy Ghost, focus on Him. He is nourishing you spiritually.
